What is Sunset Score?
Sunset Score is a mobile app that predicts how beautiful upcoming sunrises and sunsets will be at your chosen location. Enter a city and get a forecast showing the expected visual quality of sunrises and sunsets over the coming days, scored on a simple scale.
How does the beauty score work?
We combine weather data (cloud cover, visibility, humidity, dust) with astronomical calculations (sun position and azimuth) to estimate how visually striking a sunrise or sunset will be. The score reflects the overall atmospheric conditions that contribute to colorful, dramatic skies.
How accurate are the forecasts?
Our forecasts are based on weather prediction models, which become less certain further into the future. Forecasts for the next day or two tend to be the most reliable. Because weather and atmospheric conditions are inherently unpredictable, please treat the scores as guidance rather than a guarantee.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No. You do not need to create an account or log in. Simply open the app, search for a city, and view your forecast.
How do I get a forecast?
- Open the app and search for a city.
- Select your city from the suggestions.
- View the forecast cards showing beauty scores for upcoming sunrises and sunsets.
Is the app free?
Sunset Score requires a subscription to access forecasts. You can subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Subscription management and cancellation are handled through your app store settings.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Your access will continue until the end of the current billing period.
Does the app use my location?
The app can use your device's location to fetch weather data for your area, but your location is never sent to or stored on our servers. All location processing happens on your device. You can also manually search for any city without enabling location services.
Does the app work offline?
No. Sunset Score needs an internet connection to fetch up-to-date weather data and calculate beauty scores. Without a connection, the app cannot generate forecasts.
What do the different score levels mean?
The beauty score ranges from low to high, indicating how visually impressive the sunrise or sunset is expected to be. Higher scores mean conditions are more favorable for vibrant colors, dramatic clouds, and striking skies. Lower scores suggest overcast, hazy, or otherwise unfavorable conditions.
